The “Zuhause in Köln” workshop was held in Cologne on 12 July 2026 in cooperation with IVKI e.V. Cologne and with financial support from the Bürgerstiftung Köln (Cologne Citizens’ Foundation). The event brought together 10 participants from Cologne and the surrounding region and 5 members of the association’s board.
The workshop began at the Kreuzblume meeting point in front of Cologne Cathedral. Guided by Uli Kievernagel (“Der Köln-Lotse”), participants embarked on a journey through the history of Cologne and the story of the Cathedral. During the guided city tour, they were introduced to Cologne’s most important cultural traditions. The program also included a visit to a traditional Brauhaus, where participants learned about Kölsch, Cologne’s famous local beer.
Following the presentation of the “Kölner” certificates, Anja Bel delivered a presentation about Cologne in a reserved room at Löwenbräu Restaurant. The event concluded with a late lunch at the restaurant, providing participants with an opportunity to continue networking and exchanging experiences.
The workshop attracted considerable interest and was designed to support international skilled professionals who have relocated to Cologne and the surrounding region as part of Germany’s skilled immigration initiative. Its objectives included:
- Improving orientation and everyday integration.
- Strengthening participation in community and social life.
- Expanding social networks and creating new connections.
- Fostering a sense of belonging and emotional attachment to the city of Cologne.
- Reducing loneliness and social isolation.
- Promoting the sustainable integration of international skilled professionals.
